This year we didn't go to see any big fires, but just made our own fire to burn the old sticks & weeds from last fall on the day when fires were allowed. "Witches Fire" is a custom that I don't like, left over from the medieval times. No, fortunately they don't burn witches anymore, but usually lots of alcohol is consumed around the big fires. We had pizza dough wrapped around the sticks to roast over our own little fire.
